‘No’ to Google Ads in the UK

More than one million people in the United Kingdom are using Google Ads and it has led to the company’s advertising being pulled from several news websites and newspapers.

The British news website The Times published a story today, quoting an unnamed source who said that Google’s ad technology was being used in the country to generate false news.

“Google is using the British media and government to influence opinion,” the source said, adding that “many in government and in the media believe Google is manipulating the political system.”

Google’s Advertising Standards Authority has not responded to Al Jazeera’s request for comment on the Times story.

Google said in a statement to Al-Jazeera English that it was not responsible for the news outlet’s reporting.

“We are currently working on addressing the situation and will make further comments in the coming days,” Google said.
